Bernese Mountain Dog

The Bernese was used as an all purpose farm dog, to guard the property and drive dairy cattle long distances. The Bernese  are affectionate, loyal, faithful, stable, intelligent, but sometimes shy. They are great with kids and other animals. It is important to train them young though, due to their large size.  To train, you need to work with patience and love, Bernese like to think things through and may be slower to learn...but they are vary eager to please.
All in all, the Bernese Mountain Dog is a giant love bug, that can be a wonderful addition to your home with proper training and tummy scratches!
Please research breeds before bringing home your new addition. Different breeds have different needs...for the happiness of you, and your new pet, make sure the breed is good for you and your lifestyle.

Nugget

Meet Nugget. She is a tiny pug with a huge personality, and is known as the spokes-doggie for APARN. "She is Hydro cephalic, water on the brain, and will forever be a puppy emotionally. But, she is so smart and bosses all the other pugs around in her family!"

Nugget was lucky to find Terri...and vice versa. Terri is the president of APARN (Arizona Pug Adoption and Rescue Network), and has done a wonderful job of growing the organization and helping lots of lovable pugs find great homes. Together, Nugget and Terri make a beautiful team!

Please check out APARN at http://www.arizonapugrescue.com/. If you know someone that is looking for a wonderful addition to their family...tell them to take a look! Its impossible not to love a pug!

Lucky

I was hired to paint Lucky. A great mixed breed that his Person, Eric found in the desert about 6 years ago. Lucky was skin and bones when he was found. He was friendly and knew a few commands, but was obviously in need of a loving home. His new dad, named him Lucky, and took him home. They have been together for 6 years...and Lucky is, as his dad puts it, "the best dog I have ever met...so loyal and sweet!"
Lucky also helped bring his dad and his fiance together. Eric jokes that she only agreed to marry him because she was told she couldn't have Lucky without him....because they are a "package deal".

Doggies really do make the world a better place. Thank you so much Eric for sharing your story!

The Pomeranian

This breed, currently in the top 15 most popular breeds in America, got its name from the Pomerania region in Europe. The Pomeranian was a favorite to royals.
The Pom loves to be with their owners and can be prone to separation anxiety, so it is important to adjust them to your absence as early as possible. These doggies have a tendency to bark, (because they are trying to protect you) so they may not be the best companion for close quarters. But, they are very easy to train....and more than likely they will have you wrapped around their paws in no time!

The French Bulldog, Daisy

Meet Daisy, the French Bulldog. She is 29lbs of pure entertainment! She wants to be near you at all times, and loves excessive amounts of attention and tickles. This is typical of the breed, in fact, they are considered "companion" dogs. These breeds are excellent with children and with proper introduction are great with other dogs as well.
They do have a few health concerns, involving their stature
and flat face. They can have trouble regulating their temperature, due to their compact airways, so always be aware of them in extreme weather. This breed also has a tendency to sound like a little piggy....which is no exception with Daisy. You will always know exactly where this dog is.
All in all, they are wonderful dogs, and would bless any family with laughter and affection.

The Weimaraner

The Weimaraner was originally bred in the 19th century to hunt large game, such as boars, bears, and deer...oh my!
They are very active and require a significant amount of exercise. Although the Weimaraner is very stubborn, with patience they are very trainable.
This breed has a tendency towards separation anxiety. It is important to establish ground rules as a puppy. They love their owners and have been referred to as the "Velcro Dog", because they want to be attached to you at all times. The Weimaraner will definitely make you feel loved. :)

The Dachsund AKA Weiner Dog

The Dachsund was bred to hunt and flush out small animals, such as prairie dogs, badgers, and rabbits. The name Dachsund is German for " Badger Dog". Be prepared for them to dig!

The Dachsund is extremely stubborn and hard to train. But, they are super playful...and have the look that must have coined the phrase "puppy dog eyes"....so more than likely you wont stay frustrated too long :)

The Doberman

I decided that I would tell you some fun facts about the breed I paint every week. Does that sound fun?

So this week is the Doberman. Originally bred by tax collector, Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection.
These dogs are fiercely loyal. They are known to be aggressive with strangers and passive with their owners and family. Great watchdogs!

The Chihuhua WINS!!!

I decided the best way to get a WOW out of Ellen was to ask all of you, which painting was your favorite. I gave 5 choices... and the winner is (drum roll please) the CHIHUAHUA!!!

I will be mailing the painting to her this week. Please keep your fingers and toes, and legs, and arms, and anything else you could, pretty please, cross for luck!

Here is the painting that won.

Here were the other choices:

Yellow Lab

German Shorthair

Boxer

and finally.... The Corgie

What do you think? Did they pick the right winner?

Ellen

I have decided the best way to grow my business is to be on Ellen DeGeneres.

I thought about sending her a painting of one of her pets, but then I realized her passion is the charity, The Gentle Barn. So I have painted a yellow lab (the number one most common doggie in America).

Next week, I will mail Ellen the painting to auction off for The Gentle Barn.  And, hopefully (fingers crossed), I will be invited to meet Ellen on her show next season. :)

To visit Gentle Barn, go to http://gentlebarn.com/.

Whats your favorite breed?

A New Challenge

I have decided to take on a new challenge. I have never considered myself an artist of the written word...just the painted picture :) So My challenge is to not only create a new painting every week, but also to write about it...and (deep breaths please) blog it!

So here I am... Paint the Pet.. blogging.

To start, Here is the painting I did last weekend.

See ya here next week, with a new painting...and hopefully a fun story. :)
